For over 2 years our site was running the good old combination of Laravel and Vue.JS. It was time to adapt to a whole new era and go with a solution that's tailored for our business and allows us to quickly scale up the site.We have decided to use NextJS and its underlying React to create our new website. Our experience with NextJS and React goes back years and we have seen how it grew over years and became our framework of choice.So for the million-dollar question, why would we go with NextJS over, let's say WordPress?NextJS is probably the most intuitive framework we came across in the last couple of years. The number of features it comes bundled with ticked all the boxes for us. As our business grew we have noticed, that WordPress isn't fit for purpose for us anymore. It feels tacky, the combination of plugins, custom fields, themes just feels wrong when looking at the modern web. It's not fit for purpose, at least for us.When creating the initial spec for the site, it was crucial to nail the requirements and our expectations from the very start. We needed the following:<ul><li>SEO friendly layout</li><li>CMS</li><li>It had to be fast</li></ul>Pretty simple, right? Well not so much! We didn't want to use WordPress, as it's just overkill for what we need the site to do, and well, we're not particularly keen to use it anyway.Our final stack consists of the following:<ul><li>NextJS frontend</li><li>Headless Laravel CMS backend</li></ul>We were able to increase our performance and go from low 90s to high 90s on Google PageSpeed! 🎖
